Piett pointed out the Rebel base didn't seem to have a shield. Ozzel told Vader bombers would be "rathouse" against shields and that Ozzel was using instead some prototype tanks he found in the demo vids because they could punch straight through shields. Vader asked Ozzel if the hoverbombers were ready. Piett stammered that Vader might want to ask Ozzel about that. Vader ordered Piett to have the hoverbombers prepare an aerial assault. On the main Star Destroyer, Piett reported to Vader that they'd found the Rebel base on Hoth. When Ozzel started to object, Vader began Force Choking Ozzel, warning him he'd failed Vader for the second last time. Piett started to reply, only to be interrupted by Vader declaring the Rebels were there and to have the fleet set course to Hoth. Darth Vader approached them, asking what they'd found. Ozzel (with a thick Space Australain accent) dismissed it as nothing. Onboard an Imperial Star Destroyer, Captain Piett noted to Admiral Ozzel that the Imperial droid they sent to Hoth just failed to report after finding a life signal, and that the odds were that that meant the Rebels were on Hoth. He was choked from a distance by Darth Vader after failing him for the last time by providing prototype armoured tanks instead of the planned bombers, although the tanks under the command of General Veers led a successful assault on the Rebel base before they were single-handedly destroyed by Luke Amidala. Maybe.Admiral Ozzel was an NPC, an Imperial admiral in charge of the logistics of the attack on the Rebel base on Hoth. Guess which review you all are getting next Sunday. Because of the extra articulation that provides the “choking” pose, this figure gets a 5 out or 10, but an update would be appreciated.įinally, I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed the CommTech Admiral Motti yet. It’s great that the 3.75” scale brought us a minor yet memorable character like this. Ozzel was clearly clutzing around before the events of Empire. Vader is too important to make lame jokes, so it surely wasn’t also the first time. He failed Vader for the last time when he came out of hyperspace too early. Ozzel is highly memorable for being the first Imperial murdered by Vader, but he’s only on screen for around a minute, and he’s dead before the 24 minute mark of The Empire Strikes Back, but we can imagine a deeper back story. As the pilots run to the assembly of pilots, R-3PO is clearly visible on. Now, we see Rebel pilots running to join Princess Leia’s briefing where she is discussing the evacuation and defense of the base. I thought it looked odd in 2004.ĭespite its faults, it’s amazing that this figure even exists. Following the death of Admiral Ozzel, and Captain Piett’s promotion to Admiral, the very next scene takes us back to the Echo Base hanger. Back on subject, I don’t like it, and never have. Side bar: I feel like “pachyderm skin” is redundant, but since “pachydermatic” isn’t a word, and “pachydermatous” is a medical condition, I didn’t know what to do. The end result looks more like pachyderm skin. This is presumably to simulate a coarse woolen military uniform. Star Wars What did Admiral Ozzel do to warrant Darth Vader killing him when they arrived at Hoth I would think the faster they blockade the planet the more. There’s a series of random crossing lines sculpted on to the uniform. This was an overcorrection from the Power of the Force “2” (POTF2) days where fabric details were an afterthought, and all the clothes were sculpted like spandex jumpsuits. It’s almost like Ozzel is doing a Paul Lynde impersonation.Īnother issue with the figure is the sculpt of the fabric. When not placed in either of the two aforementioned poses, the left arm looks like it’s doing something silly. The downside is that neutral poses are nearly impossible. It’s not a shooting pose, but the figure can hold the included E-11 blaster across its body. It also facilitates a rudimentary two-handed-weapon-grip (THWG). No manner of modern ball-jointery would accommodate this. The sharp angle of the cut allows the elbow to “bend” well past forty five degrees. This is actually facilitated via the dreaded swivel elbows. The left hand reaches up to grab the Admiral’s neck as he’s telekinetically strangled. This figure is purpose built to recreate the scene where Vader Force Chokes Ozzel for choosing surprise over stealth. No, the reason it irritates me is that his name is Ozzel, and that lends itself to all sorts of cool nickames. Admiral Motti should be thankful he blew up on the Death Star because you know Vader would be gunning for him now that Tarkin isn’t in the picture to protect him. He proved useful to demonstrate that Vader was off the leash in the new post-Tarkin Star Wars universe. Admiral Ozzel was a bit of a putz, and that irritates.
